#whatshouldwecallme

Okay, Billy, I think I am the most excited about this tumblr.  It's called #whatshouldwecallme, and it's a collection of GIFS that the tumblr author has used to explain situations in her life.  The tumblr is rapidly growing in popularity - I've been seeing it pop up on my newsfeed, and it was recently promoted on a widely-read lifestyle blog.  (I included that fact to add credibility to this post, so you know that people other than me find it funny.)  It's one of those things that is so hilarious because it's so true.  Julia and I both read the entire thing, both laughed out loud at multiple posts, and both would exclaim with frequency, "This is so YOU!" or "This one is ME!"  It helps that the author is clearly a female law student...

Here are a few favsies:

Muffin Films

Me studying for law school finals is going to be the best thing that has ever happened to this blog. Seriously, I am finding the craziest crap in my internet-fueled procrastination. Take, for example, Muffin Films.  The back story is, in 2000, a woman named Amy Winfrey made 12 short films starring and about muffins for her MFA thesis project at the UCLA Animation Workshop.  Then, last year, she made six more to celebrate the ten-year anniversary.   I can't quite put my finger on what, but there is something inexplicably hilarious about these animated muffin shorts.  They're sort of reminiscent of Marcel the Shell.  I tend to like quirky things like that, so I guess that's why I like these...

Mini Muffins is definitely my fave.
The fact that I love this one may have something to do with this (fast forward to 0:50)...

The Muffin Tree is a close second.

I hope you enjoy the weirdness.

Disney Princesses Brought To Life

I'm currently in the middle of writing a memo.  It is not going as well or as smoothly as I want, so, naturally, I just took a little (giant) break to mindlessly surf the internet.  In doing so, I stumbled upon the coolest graphic design project ever.  Of course, you have to understand, my love of Disney might be warping my definition of "coolest graphic design project ever..."

A design student studying at Arts University College at Bournemouth decided to bring the Disney Princesses to life using photoshop and a composite of photographs.  I think he totally nailed it and some of them do look realistic.  Also, I'm pretty sure he used a picture of Kim Kardashian somewhere in his creation of Jasmine.  Jirka's (the design student) website.

And if this wasn't enough Disney Princess for you, you could always check out an artist's rendition of the Disney Princesses in accurate period costume!

London Sky Orchestra

Behold:

To begin the one-year countdown to the 2012 Summer Olympics (uh, I canNOT wait because I have a crush on the Olympics!), London brought in a sky orchestra. The balloons went up at dawn, and the sleeping city was awoken by music from above. Sometimes I forget how cool this world can be. What a beautiful reminder!

You can read more about the Sky Orchestra here.

How Twilight Works

I can't remember what my friend Nate and I were talking about, but somehow the conversation moved to Twilight. It's actually surprising and kind of disturbing how many conversations I have about a book series I don't particularly like. I'll admit that with the first two books, I could have been categorized as a "casual fan." With each subsequent book, however, my casual fandom turned to outright disdain. In a word, the series sucks. I won't go into all the reasons, but, seriously, just ask me, I can list quite a few. Instead, I'll direct you to what Nate showed me - a comic written by Matthew Inman of The Oatmeal (the entire website is hilarious, by the way, and deserves thorough exploration when you have time). How Twilight Works is hilarious and dead-on. I know you'll appreciate it.
